Submit either the requested fresh urine specimen in a sterile leak-proof urine container or a correctly collected swab in the laboratory-approved transport medium, depending on the test request. Label the primary container with specimen type, collection site where applicable, date and time. Keep the sample sealed in a biohazard bag and transport promptly at the temperature specified by the receiving laboratory; do not place loose or dry swabs in an unprotected envelope. For Trichomonas vaginalis NAAT, use packaging and preservation compatible with NAAT; if the receiving laboratory supplies a dedicated collection kit, bottle or transport medium, that kit takes precedence over general packaging guidance.
